At the southern tip of Gascony, where the three departments meet – Gers, Haute Garonne and Hautes Pyrénées – there is a little-known region of lakes and forests. Nota Bene: the property has just re-opened after renovations following a fire at the neighbour’s house. Result: the roof (frame, insulation and roofing) is brand new as well as the electrical installation (new fuseboards and wiring).

Our opinion:

Rural hotels have more or less disappeared from the French landscape, victims of draconian security regulations. In their place, we find Maison d’Hôtes – guest houses – which are slowly gaining favor with the French public, not always aware of the concept. This is in a prime location – on the Town Hall Square – and has no problem attracting customers all year round. It would lend itself to activities such as cooking classes (participants just have to open the front door to buy their fresh produce at the market) and cycling holidays (traffic-free roads and the proximity to the great TdF passes of the Pyrenees). The bonus points are the large owners’ quarters (3 bedrooms), the possibilities for expansion (attic and cellar) and general comfort (double glazing and central heating). A great deal at a realistic price.
