This is a property away from it all in the Séronais region of the Ariège. It is in a tiny hamlet with friendly and helpful neighbours. Like most former farmsteads this property has byres, cellars and barns on the ground floor, living space on the first floor and the owners’ quarters on the second floor. The interior has been completely redesigned and refurbished by a renowned local carpenter who has used only the best materials.

The property is run as a B&B but could easily be exploited as a gite or even a family home. Currently, there are two guest rooms, each with their own en-suite bathroom and more-or-less private lounge. On the same floor there is another very spacious lounge with open fire, a sun terrace and the big dining/kitchen area where the table d’hôte is served. Most of the south and east-facing facade hosts a broad wooden balcony with views to the mountains.

The owners live on the second floor: two big bedrooms and a family bathroom. The whole building is heated by a brand-new pellet-burning furnace with a five-ton capacity. It is fully automatic … and very cheap to run.

We haven’t even mentioned the service rooms at the back: scullery, laundry room, boiler-room  or the many workshops, byres and storage space underneath. The property is surrounded by an easily maintained garden with wisteria and palm trees. An adjoining field of 6000m² could be used for horses or donkeys.

Our opinion:

This really is a lifestyle-change property par excellence: a move to a mountain location in the Parc Naturel des Pyrénées Ariègoises away from pollution, crowds and noise. Buyers may want to tweak the present set-up and add a couple of guest rooms or to change the format into a more hostel-type accommodation to welcome cyclists and  hikers. It really has to be visited to see how this might work. Finally, the lower floor with its workshops and storage space could be better exploited as a yoga centre or cycle workshop.
