Eymet in Dordogne is one of those picture-postcard mediaeval ‘Bastide’ towns which just can’t help attracting tourists and travellers from all over the world. Throughout the year. The Maire and local council are well up to the task and lay on a feast of activities – cultural, gastronomic and sporting – to keep both visitors and locals happy.
This property is a thriving Bed and Breakfast right in the old town – a sort of ‘new town’ laid out in gridlock pattern … in the 13th century. The town has seen all sorts of turmoil – war, plague, civil disturbances – over the years but has remained an attractive and vibrant market town for over 800 years. The Thursday market has taken place uninterrupted since 1270 !
This is a classic B&B with three guest rooms (one of which is a family suite) with a dinky little interior courtyard where guests may take their breakfast. There’s a fine dining area, a spacious fitted kitchen and a lounge. The owners have the entire top floor to themselves … including a Tropézienne – or roof terrace.
There are a number of ways of running this business but as a classic B&B offering a table d’hôte is probably the best. If you’re not into cooking then guests have a choice of a dozen or so restaurants within walking distance. Or … one could make a separate gite out of the existing owners’ quarters on the top floor and just enjoy living in the old guest house. Whatever your choice, the property is in an impeccable state of repair and cleanliness and can be exploited from Day 1. Thoroughly recommended … especially at this attractive price.
