St Antonin-Noble-Val is a bijou mediaeval village in the Aveyron River Gorge between Albi and Cahors. It attracts visitors from all over the world … but there is no hotel. This Guest House is one of the few establishments which offer 4* hotel accommodation in the heart of the old town.
The property takes the form of a tall, solid, stone-built merchant’s townhouse on the main (pedestrian) street. The high-ceilinged big square rooms exude the power and wealth generated by commerce in the late 16th century. The extensive cellars, the shaded courtyard and the fine stonework all point to the success of this business. That was then, but the aura and charm of the building persists today.
There are five guest rooms (the maximum permitted), one on the ground floor and four on the first floor. They all have en-suite bathrooms. These bedrooms are vast (by hotel standards) with high ceilings, marble fireplaces and other original features.
Downstairs on the ground floor are the kitchens, the lounge and a billiard room. Even further down is the vast network of cellars and storage spaces … much of which can be used for communal activities.
Further up the grand staircase, the second floor houses an independent ‘gite’ or self-catering flat for two comprising a double en-suite bedroom and a lounge with kitchen corner.
The owners occupy the loft: an incredible space occupying the entirety of the top floor, full of oak beams, views of the Aveyron gorge, wood-burning stoves and space to hold a full cabinet meeting. A small stauircase leads to their double bedroom – en-suite, of course.
It’s worth mentioning the back garden (not everyone has a garden in mediaeval villages) where guests can relax in the shade of a magnificent magnolia. There’s even a back door giving on to the maze of little streets behind the main street.
Our opinion:
St Antonin is an all-year-round villageattracting tourists from all over. This is one of the key businesses in the village, in a key location. Buyers really can’t go wrong: it is sold furnished (and how!) and equipped, ready to roll. No hesitation: the photos cannot do it justice – a viewing is essential. Book yours today.
