The property is located 30 minutes or so East of Toulouse on the road to Castres and the Montagne Noire. And therefore within easy reach of Carcassonne, Albi and the Gaillac vineyards. It sits on a high ridge with views south to the distant snow-capped Pyrenees.

Dating back to 1734 the original farm building has seen additions and upgrades over the centuries culminating in what is now an imposing manor house (referred to as ‘le château’ by the locals). The living surface area of around 700m² is distributed over three floors. Central-heating throughout.

The ground floor contains three vast reception rooms: dining room, the lounge which occupies a 100m² space in the centre of the building giving on to the garden at front and back and a superb wood-panelled ‘private’ study/library. The château is set in nearly two hectares of woodland with a fair amount of flat land in front of the house. The 16 metre pool is set away from the house with its own pink brick pool house and changing rooms. A tree-lined driveway  connects the double garage and the château to the road.

Our opinion

This delightful property is near enough to Toulouse to attract hotel-weary clients to its well-appointed rooms and yet is deep in the Tarn countryside within reach of Albi, Castres and Carcassonne. It could work as an upmarket guest house offering a locally-sourced table d’hôte or, more simply, as a luxury gite . One really has to visit the domain to understand how this could work. It could also work as just a beautiful family home …
